# Flock Safety License Plate Reader Overview # Grafton Police Department Wisconsin — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQiRdab3gyM so the flock system is a force multiplier for the police department obviously we can't be everywhere at every time to capture every single license plate or capture every single stolen vehicle or anything that comes through our area a lot of times we're not even aware that there's a stolen vehicle in our area so what this camera system does is it allows us to be able to identify stolen vehicles stolen plates missing persons wanted persons so the system's got a very rigorous audit system attached with it our officers won't be able to go in and just randomly search for vehicles they have to have a reason to go in and search for vehicles flock system only holds the data in there for 30 days so that helps with the privacy issues as well it's again it's a vehicle recognition system and a license plate recognition system it's not a people recognition system it doesn't use facial technology or facial recognition technology it's important because we have a major retail corridor along us-43 and us-43 is also a major drug highway between chicago and green bay so we have a lot of people traversing our area that use grafton as a stopping point they'll usually typically come up here in stolen vehicles they'll come up here in a vehicle with a stolen plate and oftentimes these are wanted folks that are traveling through our area prior to these cameras they could do that undetected now having this ability gives us that ability to identify these folks and give us good solid leads on vehicles even if we don't have a plate we can enter that vehicle information in there and if the vehicle does have a plate attached to it we're able to identify that plate uh and associate it with that vehicle for future investigation the thing about these cameras and there's a lot of misconceptions about these cameras out there and there's a lot of misinformation about these cameras these cameras do not capture anything that a normal person walking down the street wouldn't observe normally in fact it captures a lot less because walking down the street a person can actually see who's driving the vehicle we can't all we can do is identify the vehicle type the vehicle color the vehicle make and the identifies the license plate we're going to utilize the flax system to assist us with amber alerts when we have a child that has been abducted it'll help us locate a vehicle that was involved in the abduction of that child so we can safely recover that child and bring them home we also use it during the course of your silver alerts in which individuals are suffering from alzheimer's or dementia to gain access to a vehicle and are now reported as missing that we can reunite them with their families we will also use it during the course of a green alert when we have veterans that are suffering from a mental health crisis that we can get them the appropriate resources that they need to reunite them with their families it also will give us the ability to locate vehicles wanted in violent crimes such as armed robberies carjackings bank robberies as well as gives us the ability to locate individuals that are wanted by other agencies [Music] you
