# CivicNode Stack v1 — STL Printing Guide

## Design envelope

- Nominal footprint: 210 × 205 mm
- Stack: compute deck, power deck and one or more two-drive storage cassettes
- Standard board envelope: 170 × 170 mm Mini-ITX
- Nominal panel thickness: 4 mm
- Fasteners: M3 screws and M3 heat-set inserts; brass motherboard standoffs strongly preferred

Every flat panel fits a nominal 220 × 220 mm print bed, but 210 mm parts leave little margin. Verify the printer's true reachable area and first-layer accuracy.

**Safety status:** this is an original educational prototype, not a UL/ETL/CE-listed equipment enclosure and not a substitute for a tested commercial metal chassis. Before unattended use, test actual hardware under worst-case load and obtain qualified thermal/fire review where required.

A machine-readable quantity list is included at `models/PRINT-MANIFEST.csv`. Quantities assume one compute deck, one power deck and one two-drive storage cassette; repeat the storage entries for each additional cassette.

## Material

PETG is the minimum recommended prototype material. ASA or ABS is preferred where the printer and ventilation permit. PLA may soften in a warm enclosure and is not recommended for an unattended production server.

## Suggested settings

- 0.20–0.28 mm layer height
- 4–5 perimeters
- 5 top/bottom layers
- 25–35% gyroid or grid infill
- no supports for flat panels
- 0.2–0.35 mm dimensional clearance, adjusted after a coupon

## Print order

1. `fit_coupon_mini_itx.stl`
2. `corner_bracket.stl` and `stack_dowel.stl`
3. compute base and rear I/O panel
4. compute walls/top
5. power deck
6. one HDD sled, test with the actual drive, then print the second
7. storage cassette panels

## Assembly

Use heat-set inserts in the corner brackets. Use commercial brass standoffs between the printed compute base and motherboard; the printed bosses locate the standoffs but should not be the sole thread for a production build. Add rubber grommets or vibration pads around HDD mounts.

The rear I/O opening is intentionally generous and includes a blank adapter panel. Customize the OpenSCAD source after measuring the exact board and any PCIe riser.

## Thermal test

Do not assume the enclosure is safe because it fits. Measure inlet, CPU/APU, NVMe, HDD and PSU temperatures during a full CPU/GPU load plus disk scrub. Stop and redesign airflow if any component approaches its manufacturer's limit.
